Editing

Quantizing

One thing I emphasize in production is the control we have over sound. Here’s an example of lyrics falling out of rhythm with the drum pattern:

This is what it sounds like after quantizing:

Quantized Rhythm Lyrics (After)

This editing can be applied across every type of sound we develop, creating scenes of synchronicity and dissonance. This dynamic control is one of the skills we’ll use in design.

MIXING

We can make as much noise as we want, but they need to share space. This is where mixing comes in. Here’s an example:

C# Grandsynth Unmixed (VOL WARNING)

There are actually four instruments playing at the same time. Let’s hear what it’s like after mixing:

Transforming Sounds

We can take any sound and use it create sounds for User Experience, or to vocalize a monster heading towards us. Let’s start with this regular musical note.
